Blue Wave Tuna Melt

A little fishy. A little cheesy. Totally off the hook.

Homemade Toasted Tuna Melt Sandwich

Ingredients

For the Tuna Salad:
  • 1 can (5-6 oz) tuna drained
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard optional
  • 1 celery stalk finely chopped
  • ¼ cup red onion finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Sandwich:
  • 4 slices of bread such as sourdough, rye, or whole wheat
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Directions

Make the Tuna Salad:
  • In a bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, celery, red onion, and parsley. Mix until well combined.
  • Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Grill the Sandwich:
  • Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  • Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  • Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, on a clean surface. On each slice, layer some of the tuna salad and a slice of cheese.
  • Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.
  • Place the sandwiches in the preheated skillet or griddle. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted.
Serve:
  • Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool for a minute or so before cutting in half.
